Astrology, although not as diverse in its' application and specialization as it is today, has been around for more than a few millennium (differing accounts for sure but at least since Sumerian times over 6,000 years ago).

An area of Astrology which has a rich history in its' own right and has become increasingly popular again in recent years is Medical Astrology. Medical Astrology is a magnificent and insightful way to gain a greater knowledge and understanding of our own health and wholeness.

Medical Astrology can be traced back to ancient Egypt (ca. 5,000 years ago) which gave us the basic guiding principles in this area. Being in continuous use even until early modern times (as late as the 1700's), Medical Astrology was used by practically every physician in some shape or form.

Hippocrates, (where the Hippocratic Oath comes from) a resident of ancient Greece (460-377 BCE), and the father of the medical profession had this to say about medicine and Astrology: " A physician cannot safely administer medicine if he is unacquainted with Astrology."

Medical Astrology not only provided vital information for those physicians of the past but has just as much if not more information for us today. For through Medical Astrology a greater insight may gained not only into a disease or condition itself, but also in providing possible actions and cures. Medical Astrology which benefited those of the past can and should also benefit us here in the present as well as the future.

What follows are a few ways in which we can look at the body and its' health. Each sign of the zodiac is linked or deals with specific body parts and body systems. The various houses of the natal chart deal with specific body functions. Each individual planet (Sun to Pluto) has specific actions in the way they manifest themselves. Taking the planets, signs and houses into consideration we can then discern various difficulties which the body or person may be encounter. Either life long, due to placement and configuration in the birth chart or acutely (transitory) as planetary motions trigger off specific incidents

Aries
Parts= Eyes (Man- R=Sun, L=Moon and Woman- R=Moon, L=Sun), Head, Skull, Face, Brain Tissue, Upper Jaw and Muscles.
Systems= Musculature of Body, Brain Stem and Defensive System(fights infections).
Ailments= Inflammations, migraine headaches, facial eruptions(acne or rashes), encephalitis, cuts, trauma, injuries, toothaches and excessive bleeding.

Taurus
Parts= Neck, throat, ears, esophagus, mouth, lower jaw, tonsils, palate, uvula, vocal cords, jugular and carotid.
Systems= Homeostasis (keeping things in equilibrium, hormone regulation), Sensory Function,
Ailments= Sore throat, tonsillitis, choking, goiters, swollen lymph nodes in neck and injury or damage to these areas.

Gemini
Parts= Hands, arms, lungs, shoulders, nerves, thymus gland, all tubes of the body, things that are paired (lungs, kidneys, ovaries).
Systems= Distributive Function, Nervous System and Motor Skills.
Ailments= Bronchitis, pulmonary difficulty, nerve disorders(particularly to upper extremities), pneumonia, fractures of arms, asthma, emphysema, tics/tremors and tuberculosis.

Cancer
Parts= Breast, stomach, womb, saliva, digestive juices, pancreas, diaphragm, sternum, peristaltic activity and chest cavity in general as well as all things that contain something.
Systems= Nutrition, Limbic System, Protective Systems, Body fluids, Menstrual Cycle and Digestion Process.
Ailments= Digestive/stomach ailments, breast problems, gastritis, childhood diseases, ulcers, pregnancy difficulties and chlorosis (menstrual disease w/ anemia and green color).

Leo
Parts= Spinal column and cord, heart, ribs, and thoracic vertebrae.
Systems= Energizing, Mechanical Energy as with Heart Function, Oxidation Process connected with heart to lung by pulmonary arteries and veins.
Ailments= Heart disease, palpitations, spinal meningitis, angina, aneurysms, clots, mid-back injury and spinal cord injury.

Virgo
Parts= Duodenum, spleen, intestines and peritoneum.
Systems= Digestion System, Discrimination/Absorption Process and Selection and Utilization Functions.
Ailments= Spasms, cramps, digestive disorders, obstructions, diverticulitis, constipation, diarrhea, dysentery, food allergies, intestinal parasites, colitis, Crone's disease, and peritonitis.

Libra
Parts= Lumbar region of spine (vertebrae) and kidneys,
Systems= Regulative Function, Renal Function (Filtration and Distillation).
Ailments= Hernia, diabetes, hypoglycemia, kidney disease, cystitis and low back/kidney injury and pain.

Scorpio
Parts= Bladder(also Cancer is a container), pelvis, urethra, ureters, prostate, groin region (includes sexual organs), rectum, colon and nostril openings.
Systems= Elimination and Excretion Process and Uro-Genital System.
Ailments= Bladder infections, fungal infections, warts, bacterial infections, abscesses, STD, uretritis, prostatitis, vaginal infections, sexual dysfunction's, surgeries, tumors and stinging insects.

Sagittarius
Parts= Thigh, hip, femur(long bones of leg), sacral bones (tail of spine), liver and blood.
Systems= Locomotion, Movement and Action Functions, Transference (from place to place) where Gemini reaches out and moves only locally within its grasp or reach of hands.
Ailments= Anemia, hip/thigh injury or trouble, sciatica. Hepatitis, gun shots, malaria, viruses, falls, injury from large animals and sports injuries.

Capricorn
Parts= Gall bladder, bones, skin, teeth, knees, bone marrow, joints, hair, nails and cell walls (membranes).
Systems= Structural and Boundary Systems, Skeletal System and tends towards: chronic, hardening, blockages and ossification.
Ailments= Arthritis, skin diseases and disorders, rheumatism, arteriosclerosis, sclera derma, build up in vessels, jaundice and melancholy/depression.

Aquarius
Parts= Calves, ankles, and lower legs.
Systems= Oxidation Process within Circulation Function (removal of gases and poisons), Chemical processes in the body, deals with morbid changes, removes carbonic acid, Nervous System Regulation by prime meridians and the flow of Chi.
Ailments= Varicose Veins, injuries to lower leg (calves/ankles), blood poisoning, cramping and crippling of legs and toxic poisoning.

Pisces
Parts= Feet, toes, mucous membranes, phlegm and softening or dissolving of tissues and organs.
Systems= Auto Immune System, Lymphatic System, Isolative Function and Assimilation of Foreign Bodies/Substances.
Ailments= Phlegm, mucous discharges, gout, gangrene, bunions, corns, deformities of feet (heels), injury to feet, alcoholism, addictions (drugs), and genetic dispositions to conditions (sickle cell, hemophilia).
